Will your GTA VI code work? Regions, upgrades and GTA+

A PlayStation code for GTA VI only works with an account registered in the same region. The United Kingdom is a region of its own, so a code bought in the UK needs a UK account. Ireland, Germany, France and most of Europe share another region. Rockstar says Xbox codes are not region-locked.

Check a PlayStation code

Pick your PlayStation account’s country and the country the code or box was bought in. The answer uses Rockstar’s own region list, shown in full below.

Won’t work. A PlayStation code bought in Germany only works with an account registered in a country in the “Rest of EMEA and Asia” region. United Kingdom is in a different region.

On Xbox Series X|S, codes are not region-locked.

Should work. Spain and Germany are both in Rockstar’s “Rest of EMEA and Asia” region for PlayStation codes.

PlayStation code regions

This applies to download codes, including the code in a physical box, from any shop. Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as your PlayStation account.

Copies bought from the Rockstar Store
  • UK: codes shipped to the United Kingdom only work with a UK PlayStation account.
  • EU and rest of Europe: codes shipped elsewhere in Europe only work with a PlayStation account registered in Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden or Switzerland.

Redeeming, gifting and the PS5 Digital Edition

These are PlayStation’s own rules for codes, so they are marked Strong evidence.

How to redeem a code

  1. Go to PlayStation Store and select your profile at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Redeem Code from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter the 12-digit code carefully and select Continue.
